Wildcats Run at Mega Meet
Laporte’s Cross Country team traveled to Milaca Saturday (Sept. 20) to participate in the USA’s largest high school running event.
The Wildcats competed with 4,961 runners from over 100 schools and the best cross country athletes in the state and region.
Wildcat Keairah Urrutia placed 38 of 235 girls in the 8th grade girls event, running the two mile raced in 14 minutes four seconds, one of her best times of the season.
Nick Bialke placed 105 of 302 in the 7th grade boys event, running his personal best time of 14:03. Wesley Harmon, an 8th grader, achieved his personal goal of breaking the 15 minute barrier and ran the best race of his career in 14:57.
James Kline competed with 230 Varsity Boys Class A runners and finished with his best time of the season and second best of his career in 22:20 for the 5000 meter race.
The Wildcats will train hard in the coming week for races in Perham and Park Rapids before finishing the season at the Sections event in Bagley at the end of October.
Congrats to the Laporte Cross Country Team for their Wadena Invite races! Keairah took first place in the girls junior high race. She ran the two mile race in 13:59, 32 seconds faster than her closest competitor. William ran the fastest race of his career (15:27, a minute better than his best in 2013). Wesley had the second best race of his running career (15:50). James Kline had to run farther than the rest (3.1 miles vs 2.0) and had good start to the season. Next race: Bemidji, Greenwood Golf Course, Friday, bus leaves school at 3pm.
