There are several changes in the English department in the 2014-15 school year. For starters, Jeannie Konechne has come on board to teach 7th grade English. John continues to teach Englsih 8, 9, and 10, as well as 11th and 12th grade electives. Juniors and seniors have an extra elective to pick from this year. The trimester one offering is American Literature. Juniors and seniors may choose either College American Literature, 1865 to present or Mythology during trimester two. College American Literature is a concurrent enrollment class with BSU, offering students the opportunity to earn college credit in the Laporte School English classroom. Students will also be offered an opportunity to take the AP Literature and Composition Exam in May. Finally, juniors and seniors may select either Personal Writing or College American Literature, pre-1865 during trimester 3.

Again this year, students in English 8, 9, or 10 are required to read indpendently two hours per week outside of class. You should see your student reading at home. In addition, they will be asked to complete projects, papers, and activities that will require work time at home. Your support will promote the growth of their literacy skills and critical thinking.
